Labor Day

Posted by jdellis on August 31, 2007

It looks as though it will truly be a “Labor” Day weekend at the Ellis home.  Julie has proposed that we paint another room in the house.  I guess it could be worse (i.e. working outside in the heat).

She’s a great “Project Leader”, if you know what I mean.

Life Is Too Short

Posted by jdellis on August 31, 2007

Although Labor Day weekend is upon us and I’m looking forward to an extra day off work, there are a few clouds on the horizon.  I had an Uncle to pass away this week and his funeral is on Saturday.  He had been battling cancer for a while and was finally called home just yesterday morning.  On top of that, many of you may know that I have another Uncle that has just realized and began his battle with cancer as well.  Please continue to keep both of these families in your prayers.

In all of this I’m reminded that life is so short.  Even as Jacob, my son, grows up right in front of me, mostly I don’t see it until after it has happened.  He’s almost two years old now.  My wife and I have been together now for over eleven years…WOW!!!  Where has the time gone?  The days and weeks go by so fast now that I’m older.

Hope I didn’t bum anyone out.  Have a great weekend.

Getting Excited

Posted by jdellis on August 22, 2007

Some exciting events are coming up for UpRising Church.  I’m pumped about where God is taking us.  I can’t believe it’s been eight months since this ‘ride’ officially started and already God is positioning us for something I believe will help us to explode like we are expecting.

I tell people who are outside our church about what’s going on and how we’re doing.  They seem to think our growth has been pretty good for the first year.  Well, some of us in the church would say that it hasn’t been good enough.  Even Pastor Joe will echo that statement.  For all those who would say that we shouldn’t focus on ‘the numbers’, they need to read their bible.  Yes, we are all about loving, teaching, and supporting one another, but we are still very conscience that God wants us to reach out to many!

Again, it’s so exciting to be a part of all this!!!

Vacation Is Over

Posted by jdellis on August 13, 2007

Well, my family and I have been in Orlando for the past week and now we’re back home and returning to “reality”.  We spent a lot of time with Mickey and Shamu.  Although we got up early almost every day and headed off to have fun, the extra effort to “relax” was worth it.  We made a lot of memories and spent some very quality time with one another.  I can’t wait to go back.

Jacob had a blast and was especially fond of all the animals that we saw at the parks.  The characters just didn’t excite him much, except Nemo (the fish), of course.  We watched that movie probably 10 times over the course of the week.  I almost have the script memorized.

The most ironic part of our trip was probably the fact that it was actually hotter in Tennessee than in Florida.  Ouch!!!  Maybe we we’re a little fortunate in our timing from that respect.  Anyway, glad to be home again!
